PhD thesis A morpho-syntactic analysis of speech introductions and con- clusions in Homer at the Ludwig-Maximilians-UniversitaÅNt München, in which the verbs of speaking and answering were treated, but expands the corpus to include all the verba dicendi and also incorporates the results of the two subsequent postdoctoral projects, one focusing on tempus and aspect and the use of the augment, the other on mood, modality and particle use. The book first discusses the previous scholarship on speech introductions and conclusions, focusing o Parryism and oral poetry, the so-called ???-Reden, and verbal suppletion. In a next step, the corpus is determined by cataloguing the verba dicendi in different categories, describing what exactly constitutes a speech introduction and taking a closer look at the double introductions. Then, the use of tense and aspect, the augment, the moods and modal particle, and finally, the constructions with reference to the unreal are analysed. For each of these issues, the previous scholarship is first discussed in great detail, then a corpus of metrically secure forms is determined and, finally, the instances are analysed.
