It was an incredibly popular work and was held in high esteem in the field of historical literature for many years. The work ran through several translations and editions. Lorenzo de'Medici was an Italian statesman and de facto ruler of the Florentine Republic. He is regarded as one of the most powerful and influential patrons of the Renaissance.
