Antoni Abad, (born in 1956 in Spain), trained as art historian and sculptor, proposes a project that, with art as a starting point, plants a new mode of a project of mobile audiovisual communication for collective groups (taxi drivers, gypsies and prostitutes living in Mexico and Spain) that do not have an active presence in the prevailing communication media. Channel www.zexe.net proposes a public digital space, where stations and users experiment on the social use of GPRS networks. People will roam public and private spaces in their cities, equipped with camera-integrated mobile phones. They compile and interchange experiences and opinions, converting themselves into reporters of their own reality. By means of multimedia messaging (audio, video, photo, text) and telephone conversations, they coordinate the internet publication in real time of the audiovisual channels previously established.
In periodic meetings, the evolution of the existing channels are analyzed, the creation of new virtual spaces are decided on, and the association in collective stations dedicated to each channel are done.
The book will be published on the the occasion of the solo exhibition held at Giorgio Persano Gallery in Turin from May 8th, 2006.
It will collect 300 selected images taken from the website, including comments and short texts by the users. It will be also accompanied by a critical essay by Alberto L"pez Cuenca, Professor at UDLA (Universidad de las Américas) in Mexico City.
