The exhibition inaugurated at Castello di Donnafugata, in Ragusa, presents more than 160 works on paper by Duilio Cambellotti, coming from the family archives: together with the preparatory drawings there are painted earthenware pots, wrought iron lamps, stained glass windows and sketches. The artist's production is rich and multiform and it offers the visitor an overall view of his polyedric artistical personality. The artist was born in Rome in 1876, and started his career as a decorator and designer, working in many Italian and foreign firms. He approached the English Arts & Crafts movement and elaborated a personal style, particularly essential and applied to the creation of bronzes, pottery, stained glass windows and illustrations. His engagement in the 30s in the decoration of various public buildings (Rome, Bari, Ragusa, Siracusa, etc) was remarkable.
The catalogue presents a series of essays of the artist (in Italian and English) and is accompanied by a rich selection of photographs of the works on display and by a bio-bibliographical apparatus.
