"The image of darkness is a frequent presence, perhaps, it is one of the most insistent in my work, (...) it is like a doubt insinuated to the eye of the beholder (...). Birth and death are linked to darkness, which is the hidden place where images and ideas take shape. It is the first mirror image of men (...), the metaphor of the end, of nothingness, and nothingness is the only star." With these words, Parmiggiani explains his relationship with darkness, a symbolic constant through all his research. His works are created with a passage of fire-destructive but lively, vibrant, violent-which leaves unchangeable traces of mystery and anguish after passing. Time leaves its traces: signs of memories, remains of dust and rests of shapes are the core of a melancholic nostalgia, aware of a completeness lost forever, of which there are only vestiges.
There is something magical-like Vulcan's cavern-as well as prodigious in setting the unpredictable paths of smoke and ash through which Parmiggiani challenges destruction with memory.
