He frequently works with industry (Olivetti, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, IBM, Italsider, Procter & Gamble, etc.), producing company reportages and monographs. His archives contain about a million photographs, most of them in black and white, which cover a range of subjects from social reportage to architecture, from landscape to industrial photography. One section of it is dedicated to collector's photos.
He is represented in Italy and abroad by the agency Contrasto.
This volume is his 200th book.
Ugo Nespolo took a diploma at the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin and then a degree in modern literature. He made his appearance on the Italian art scene in the sixties.
In the seventies Nespolo ventured into another medium, the cinema: in particular that of the experimental, art film. Festivals of his films have been staged by the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Philadelphia Museum of Modern Art and the Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin.
The eighties represented the heart of his "American period". These years also saw him gather considerable experience in the sector of the applied arts. "Art has to be brought into life" is the maxim which reflected in the realization of posters such as that for "Azzurra", the Campari advertising campaign, Il Salone Internazionale dell'Auto in Turin. The scenery and costumes for Turandot, The Elixir of Love, Don Chisciotte for important international opera theatres.
Important are his artistic collaborations with Richard Ginori, for the ceramics, and with the historic glassworks of Barovier & Toso in Murano.
Nespolo's major solo exhibitions are: Casa d'Arte Nespolo (Palazzo della Permanente, Milan), Le stanze dell'Arte (Promotrice delle Belle Arti, Turin), a travelling exhibition in Latin America, Nespolo + Napoli (Palazzo Reale, Naples), an anthological exhibition in Eastern Europe (Gallery of Modern Art in Moscow, Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg and National Museum of Modern Art in Minsk).
