The series – under the direction of the Dutch Institute for Art History in Florence – aims to catalogue the over ten thousand Dutch and Flemish paintings held by various Italian public collections. The project classifies the works according to Italian regions and there are contributions from a variety of art historians. The first volume (1998) is devoted to works held in Liguria, and is now followed by volume II on paintings in Lombardy.
