Director of the Computing Culture research group at the MIT Media Lab, Chris Csikszentmihályi has worked in the intersection of new technologies, media and the arts since the early 1990s. His two largescale installations at Location One in New York explore two central technologies of late industrial society: the airplane and the control panel. These 20th-century artifacts-sleek and seductive, ominous yet familiar-are uncannily transposed to the space of the gallery, giving viewers a newly visceral understanding of our dependence on complex technologies and the vulnerability they engender.
