The topic of ethics is today, more than ever, at the centre of the daily debate; in particular, the dichotomy between freedom of the individual citizen and the authoritarian impositions from the state is becoming increasingly clear. Since human beings began to live together in groups, the legitimacy of moral behaviour has become necessary for the survival of every community. In light of these considerations, the Assessorato Moda created the fashion brand Lagabbia, in collaboration with the Florentine prison of Sollicciano and major companies of the Florentine territory. Wearable and other products were made, expressing both the territory's excellent manufacturing capabilities and the intangible values carried by their products. Saper fare (knowinghow- to-make-things) is not only an economic and market value, but it is reconsidered and reinterpreted in a contemporary view, becoming the vector for ethical and social values. Therefore, it is important to ask ourselves what ethics means in the design process and in the creation of produc. If we know that an intelligent product or system will have social influence, we need a criterion to determine what a desirable influence is. Ethics gives such a criterion. This criterion goes beyond functionality. If you plan an ethical approach in the design process, the resulting product will be an ethical product or a product whose use causes ethical behaviour and ethical business interactions. The project and the products Lagabbia show how these theoretical concepts can become a reality and strengthen the image of the territory, its strong manufacturing tradition and its humanity.
