We lost the sea is a kinetic installation conceived as a scenic device, a theatrical machine that is not afraid to show its tricks and gears but that, on the contrary, seeks its poetic dimension in the artifice of theatre. The stalls takes the shape of a pier, an element projected from the mainland, which allows one to have a closer, more intimate relationship with the work, as well as with the synthesized and synthetic universe it represents.
Synthetic is the material, fiberglass, of which the cisterns for the collection of rainwater are made of, containers of Palermitan sea symphonies.
Synthetic is the mechanical breath of the ventilators; synthetic the mylar sheets anchored to the cisterns which, moving and waving like kites, create the reflection of light from the depths of the sea. Ultimately, synthetic is the artist's gaze, which condenses within the limits of the scenic stage the fluid water-air-light system, a system which generates the breath of the earth, revealing its restrictions, its sufferings, and its intermissions.
We lost the sea is a cry for help, a declaration that denounces the collapse of the ecosystem, an invitation to become aware of it and abandon the comfort zones of our own individualisms, of our romantic idea of an imperturbable nature at the service of our emotional and intellectual certainties.
