The photographic exhibition Italians having lunch makes part of the programme called Grandi Stazioni (Great Stations) and aims to promote and re-evaluate the functional and social role of some of the most important Italian stations as places of transit, non places from which people run away to reach other destinations. This project originates from the willingness of widespreading a new concept of station, not only considered as a place of transit, but also a sort of city square with his own facilities and opportunities for spare time where all travelers and urban dwellers may meet and share their ideas and values. The stations of Roma Termini and Milano Centrale, with about 800.000 travelers everyday, have been chosen to present about 80 photographs shot by various artists on the subject of Italians having lunch. The ritual of eating that makes part of our system of values and is a real protagonist of social relationships is the focus around which these photographs have been shot in the last 50 years by the photographers selected by Uliano Lucas
