This magnificent retrospective has been mounted in the Kunsthal (Rotterdam) to mark the centenary of Rotterdam-born artist Willem de Kooning. This is also the first time that De Kooning's work has been exhibited in the Netherlands on a large scale. The Willem de Kooning Foundation in New York has committed to the project, as have many leading museums, including the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Furthermore, many private collectors have contributed important works. This richly illustrated book features around fifty works by this famous painter and an in-depth examination of his life and oeuvre. It also sheds a contemporary light on Willem de Kooning's place in art history and his influence on later generations by comparing him with, amongst others, Gerhard Richter, Brice Marden, David Reed and Robert Zandvliet.
