The publication brings together the complete works of Piet Mondrian, who was one of the great abstract painters of the twentieth century, and founder of the "De Stijl" magazine (1917). Mondrian, with Theo Van Doesburg, also founded Neoplasticism, which initiated a new form of plastic expression that "abstracted all forms and all colours in clearly defined straight lines and primary colours".
The catalogue is divided into two sections: the figurative and naturalistic period of Mondrian's youth, up to 1911, and the cubist and abstract period which lasted until the artist's death in 1944. These two phases are considered in the light of carefully analysed original documents. The catalogue also contains a list of exhibitions and auctions, a general bibliography and a specific bibliography relating to publications of Mondrian's texts and interviews with him.
