It is based on materials from the exhibit on the Hungarian Violin School, held in Ferrara in 2003, produced by Prof. László Gombos, musicologist at the Budapest Academy of Science and Chairman of the Hubay Foundation, whom I thank for graciously providing photographs (many of which were previously unpublished) held by the Foundation. The translation into English was brilliantly done by Eric Siegel.
This story is an invitation to explore the historical and musicological topics considered at the Ferrara conference, which documented one of the most fruitful periods in European violin music. By doing so, the reader will relive the wonderful heritage of the Hungarian violin school and meet the eminent cultural and musical figures of the age.
References to dates and events in this story are almost all factual.
