While swimming, anxiety and panting are subdued. Thoughts are no longer jumbled, but rather surface one at a time.
Hallenbad Book deals with a vision, an obsessive course generated and held captive in a swimming pool. The artist, dressed like a torero getting ready for a corrida, or like a kamikaze heading towards death, or even like a body offering itself in sacrifice, swims for hours with a microphone and video camera attached to her body, recording images and sounds in a form of unreasonableness that constitutes an alternative rule, a different perspective on the real world.
This book documents a performance (in three pools: Milan, Pontresina, Sacca Fisola) that only aims at depicting the action as it unfolds. There is no place to discover or an objective to reach, a result to obtain, a prize to win-if not on the inside. Pure and simple performance-difficult, demanding, catching spectators off-guard.
