The research project "City of Pompei: upgrading the historical centre and enhancing the exploitation of the archaeological, historical and religious heritage" has been promoted and implemented by the Interdepartmental Centre of Research in Urban Planning "Alberto Calza Bini" of the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II.
The project features a series of analyses and proposals providing an overview of the territory of Pompei and adopting an approach to its upgrading designed to enhance the exploitation of the city's rich archaeological, historical and religious heritage. It pursues the development of studies in the sectors of programming and planning, at the urban, landscape and territorial levels, paying special attention to the sustainability of the city and territory, to techniques of vocational training and to the evaluation of urban, landscape and territorial projects.
Given the characteristics and aims of this project, it undoubtedly represents a significant contribution to the valorization of the historic centre, the improvement of the road network and accessibility, and the transformation of the built fabric of the City of Pompei.
