Giovanni Termini is a sculptor who has been assembling various materials for twenty years. They are objects borrowed from everyday life, in particular from the world of construction, destined to become works that tell of the precariousness of the human condition and of our continuous state of suspension in the present. Termini’s creations are true ‘construction sites’, those work areas scattered around our cities that have always hidden a deep symbolic meaning in oscillating between construction and destruction, thought and praxis. Termini has placed the construction site at the centre of his artistic thinking, and it has led him to take an entirely personal path within the panorama of contemporary artistic enquiry. ‘The space of the construction site’, writes Marco Bazzini, ‘is for Giovanni Termini what cosmic space is for Lucio Fontana or Eliseo Mattiacci’. This book, an in-depth monograph, examines the last fifteen years of Termini’s artistic production (although he debuted in 1998), reconstructing the most significant stages of a sculptural oeuvre that continually raises questions about the nature of the medium used and the state of our world.
