A historic, prestigious university-the Università degli Studi Federico II, in Naples-that carefully confers the few honors it awards (in the last five years, only Alvaro Siza has earned similar recognition) has decided to give an Honorary Degree in Architecture to a photographer. Mimmo Jodice, who is among the most significant protagonists of contemporary photography, declares without reticence that the revelatory encounter with this form of art has changed his thought, life, and work. From research done over the past forty years "in search of a Beauty that seems ever more betrayed" and a passionate investigation of architecture, in this book Jodice gathers a selection of portraits of a few capitals, inspired by the cities themselves, almost as if they long to transmit their urban identity to the future. Jodice is a citizen of the world who has never broken his ties to his native land, Naples;
amid computers and the advent of digital photography ("I just observe and reflect") he still uses the same photographic equipment with manual film forwarding, and remains bound to his darkroom, where he prints all his photos.
Jodice teaches us to see architecture with sensitivity, passion, and simplicity.
