La presente pubblicazione è dedicata al principale esponente dei macchiaioli: Giovanni Fattori (Livorno 1825 - Firenze 1908). I macchiaioli erano un gruppo fiorentino di artisti che, in reazione all'accademismo imperante nell'Ottocento italiano, si rivolgono al "vero" come soggetto e a una sorta di destrutturazione delle forme sul piano stilistico, la "macchia". In Fattori la "macchia" di colore-luce si sostituisce al chiaroscuro tradizionale cercando suggestivi effetti tonali, mentre le tematiche affrontate si incrociano spesso con un sentito impegno sociale.
