Exodus | Focus is an extract from Nicolò Filippo Rosso's long-term project Exodus, which investigates migrations and forced displacement, focusing in particular on the Americas, but with the aim of highlighting the common features of a frequent human condition of our time. Families worldwide are fleeing wars, inequality, poverty, natural disasters and totalitarian regimes. In the photographer's eyes, every single migrant represents an example of the tenacity and courage needed by those who face their disadvantaged condition to build a future for their children and offers us the opportunity to reflect on the privileges and disparities in the world. In the search for a correct representation, that restores the right space and dignity of those who are photographed, Nicolò is close to them and participates in their stories. He knows them and shows us the drama in its essentiality, while always preserving a formal balance, that space necessary for re-elaboration, almost like a classical tragedy, with the aim of recreating the order necessary for understanding the facts. Not to spare the viewer, but to allow a participating approach of the observer. Exodus | Focus was born from the collaboration between emuse and the Festival of Ethical Photography, whose World Report Award's Master and Short Story sections Nicolò Filippo Rosso won in the 2021 edition. The publication contains 12 black and white photographs printed in large format, accompanied by texts and reflections by the author and a reproduction of an original illustration by Stefano Allisiardi.
