Painted cities, from Mediterranean climes to northern skies, mysterious and multifarious, crossroads of cultures and of layers of memory - whether in Palermo, Catania, Genoa, Marseilles, or Milan. These are the central characters in Extramoenia, the new project devised by Velasco, born in Bellano by Lake Como in 1960. Accompanying these painted cities, for the first time we find a series of silent, metaphorical sculptures: packs of stray dogs with iron and cement skeletons. These disturbing presences pop-ulate the artist's seductive, abandoned lands, conveying the sense of a world that somehow reconciles echoes of modernity with ancestral memories.
