This generously documented monograph is the first to provide a detailed look at the oeuvre of this highly original renewer of Dutch sculpture in the 1940s and 50s. In spite of the lessons he took in the 1930s in Paris from painter Fernand L233;ger and sculptor Ossip Zadkine, Reijers was seen as an autodidact. His eclectic half-abstract and half-figurative sculptures reflect the vitality, openness and originality of Reijer's own personality. With each new piece, his work continued to surprise the art world until his untimely death in 1958.
