The Author, Fr. Salvatore Ruzza, a religious of the Community of the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua, Italy, has the intention of offering a concise yet in-depth work on the Basilica itself, but with the annexed buildings left out. To this end he has explicitly availed himself of numerous studies, both Italian and foreign, thus allowing the reader to enter the world of historic and artistic research. Particular attention has also been given to the values of faith, without which art itself would remain poorer, especially in a shrine like this one, which is a point of reference for a significant part of the Christian world. This was undertaken in such a way as to safeguard the economy of the work, and through the use of criteria which, at least in part, lie outside the scope of similar works.
This work, with its bibliographic list subdivided into categories and an index of names (artists, restorers, scholars and personalities), is a useful aid to those who wish something more than a popular or specific publication.
