Architecture is, fundamentally, about forming space. Each new project confronts the architect with the challenge of designing spaces and translating the design into built reality. Outstanding solutions and unusual approaches to this challenge are therefore a valuable source of inspiration for designers to draw on. The present publication introduces 30 spatial concepts by significant 20th-century architects. The individual studies are the result of an extensive survey conducted at the Bauhaus University in Weimar and cover designs by pioneers of Modernism such as Le Corbusier, Louis Kahn, Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe as well as spaces and volumes by contemporary architects, including Rem Koolhaas, Zaha Hadid and PeterZumthor.
