An intense narrative that overlooks the eternal struggle for the lightness of the architectural structure, in search of the critical relevance of Francesco Borromini. Paolo Portoghesi invites us to think about the broad perspectives of history, comparing fragments and visions, projects and linguistic approaches. The goal is to identify formal similarities and compositional differences, interweaving a myriad of aesthetic, historiographic, philosophical and even biographical aspects; because architecture is alive and breathing in the lives of the great masters. Borromini's relevance is a complex dynamic made up of technique and suggestion, of building sites and almost visionary inspiration. In Paolo Portoghesi's view, this approach is a substantial continuation of classical culture that, however, leads to an innate ability to radically turn the tables through design and a constantly revolutionary attitude. Portoghesi's methodology is intended to bring to light not so much the rigid classicism of those who look to the past to wallow in the melancholy of a world that no longer exists, but rather the Borrominian mechanism that forcefully pushes us to look back to discover a new future.
