Antonio Gherardi, Italian painter and architect, was born in Rieti in 1644 and died in Rome 1702. He began his artistic way next to P.F.Mola and Pietro da Cortona, made a lot of trips for the purpose of studying, worked in Rome frescoing Palazzo Neri and Santa Maria in Trivio (1670). Here he decorated in stucco two chapels in Santa Maria in Trastevere and San Carlo ai Catinari, inspired by Borromini and Bernini.
