The conference on how the Medici villas and gardens influenced the art of gardens was the outcome of a meeting held in Florence in 2004 by the International Committee on Cultural Landscapes ICOMOS-IFLA. On that occasion, committee members discussed revealing and promoting Medicean elements in residences and gardens that are distant geographically and culturally, confirming the merits of including the "Tuscan gardens and villas" on the list of World Heritage Sites.
