The Italian artist Tullio Pericoli has painted severa! portraits of Irish-born writers, in panicular Samuel Beckett, bm also Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, which represent the artist's intcrprctaiion of their lilcrary works, as wcll as their likcness and personaiity.
Dublin's Oscar Wilde House has hosted in spring 2007 an exhibition of the portraits of 'the must liandsome face of the twenrieth Century*, asTullio Pericoli writes of bis model Samuel Beckett.
The Irish public alrcady had a certain familiarity with Pericoli's work, due to the portrait of James Joyce which appears on the stamp issued by An Post on the occaion of the centenari of Bloomsday in june 2004.
