The ostentation of an environmental commitment has replaced the effort to set architecture in an urban horizon. How all this can be turned into a real architectural theme is certainly a subject that will require a new cultural engagement, while for the time being we are limiting ourselves to exploring this commitment in an issue of the magazine that examines certain modes of design which, applied essentially outside the big city, look for some opportunities in suburban settings. From this it will be possible to point out the fertility of an approach that, freed from the constraints of the metropolis, develops in a completely new way suggestions coming from the countryside. Given that architects are for the most part shaped by an urban culture, contact with nature triggers in them an out-and-out cult of biophilia, as in the case of the works of the Japanese, the experiments of the French, the new commitment of the Chinese or a certain Italian architecture that is practiced in direct contact with locations.
