Arturo Tosi (Busto Arsizio 1871 - Milan 1956) Lombard painter, son of the Scapigliatura movement is father of a naturalism that places him in an eccentric and important position within twentieth-century culture. The bond that ties him to the landscape is that of a modern connoisseur who puts his knowledge to work and assigns himself the task of giving order to the wild state of nature. In this dimension he presents us with extraordinary emotions of being at one with nature; such emotions are like milestones in the history of contemporary art, in particular, landscape painting. The same can be said for still-life painting, interpreted by Tosi not as an objective description but as a chromatic starting point to construct exuberant and intense suggestions and a sense of natural reality that helps us to restore some of the most genuine and authentic moments and elements of our deformed perceptive and cognitive capacities.
