an inner feeling that I would never have by applying
paint to canvas. Paper is part of my background, of my
existence. Paper, for my work, has always been the best
support. I've always had the impression that it is easier to
tear up paper than canvas....and I must admit that I've
always drawn like crazy." This is what Velasco affirms in
this book, the very first to document his works on paper.
In 1984, Giovanni Testori defined the essence of
Velasco's art with these words: "Mainly he draws." In
fact, Velasco draws ceaselessly, anywhere and every-where:
sitting, standing, in front of the TV, in a bar or on
the beach. Thus, day after day, Velasco piles up thou-sands
of small pieces of paper (or do they reproduce
themselves spontaneously, as a confirmation of their
love?) that loyally follow him wherever he goes. This
book tells a story of love and passion - fully achieved
and experienced - between a man and his drawings.
