Artists have always accustomed us to their jewels.
Architects and designers seldom have worked with the typology of jewelry. This is a journey, therefore, into the rare world of the jewelry of professionals used to deal-ing with the broadest field of architectural planning and design: a journey packed with surprises, ranging through a variety of artistic periods, encountering different gener-ations, from Sottsass to the Bouroullecs. From Paolo Portoghesi's micro-architecture to Ron Arad's folding ear-ring, from the ruff that Lella Vignelli has called Seicento to Mario Bellini's "catalyzers for the beauty of the body," taking in Nathalie Jean's paper necklaces and Konstantin Grcic's songs on PVC on the way. As a counterpoint we have chosen to set the jewelry of these designers along-side five exempla - artist jewelry, jewelry designer jew-elry, pièce unique jewelry, fashion designer jewelry, seri-ally produced jewelry - that show other modes of con-temporary jewelry and thus highlight differences and analogies with design jewelry.
