Mario Schifano (Homs, Libya - Rome 1998) is considered one of the greatest protagonists of the Italian painting in the twentieth century. His works of the '60s-which have coincided with the pop and monochrome trend-have been carefully studied. The '80s-which have been considered as an interlocutory period for a long time-have been dominated by an absolutely contemporary and vital way of painting that deserves a very careful new interpretation nowadays. Many works by Schifano combine the impetuosity of the Italian and international Transavanguardia (European neo-expressionism) with the hypermodern point of view, attracted by the speed of technology and by mass media chaos. The monograph is enriched by many unpublished photographs.
