In 1999, Albania was represented for the first time at the Venice Biennale. Adrian Paci, born in Scutari in 1969, was one of the nine artists on hand. Since then, his evolution as an artist has been constant. Using video, installation, painting, and photography, Paci, with immediacy and irony, reflects upon a painful reality-dislocation, losing and rediscovering one's origins that has becomes an existential condition. His search for points of reference has lead him to question the very nature of art and the artist's role, in an ongoing, subdued celebration of everyday life. This book documents Paci's creative path, from his first participation in Manifesta 3 in Ljubljana to the 2005 Venice Biennale and his solo show at P.S. 1/MoMA in New York.
