In the last 20 years there has been at an international level a great increase of archaeological, art historical, technological and archaeometric studies dealing with the marbles and stones used in antiquity, since then all materials much neglected if compared with ceramics. The results of the researches conducted in the last years on sites (quarries, archaeological areas, monuments), as well as in laboratories, have finally set the correct scientific approach to the various themes connected to the marbles used in antiquity and a remarkable qualitative step in this specific field. It is then much necessary to have a dedicated Journal that may become the scientific reference for all the specialists working in the field of marbles. "Marmora" has been created with this purpose. It promotes a close collaboration of the humanistic and scientific disciplines in these studies and publishes, yearly, a series of new or review papers in the five most used archaeological and archaeometric languages (Italian, English, French, Spanish and German).
