«Medioevo letterario d'Italia» aims at encouraging the reader to look at the cultural scenario of the first few centuries of our literature from a new perspective: the one founded on studies of Roman philology and history of Italian language. The use of an apparently connoted specification as «d'Italia» hints at the opportunity of avoiding to confine the field of observation and action to 'national' literature only (i. e. the vernaculars of the si), but to extend it to what, regarding the production and dissemination of texts, has still had, although in different idioms, a direct relationship with medieval Italy, its culture, its traditions: the poems of the Italian-born troubadours, what was written in the language d'oil, the so-called Franco-Venetian epic poetry, the Latin literature. This is also a historical and chronological scenario, that encloses above all the XIII and the XIV centuries, extending when required to its farthest origins and the fifteenth century.
