Memorie Della Società Astronomica Italiana is a professional journal published quarterly by the Italian Astronomical Society. It is one of the oldest astronomical journal in the world having being funded in 1872 by Pietro Tacchini as Memorie della Società degli Spettroscopisti Italiani. It acquired its new title in 1920 when the Society changed its name to Società Astronomica Italiana. For a century, the Memorie were the principal journal where Italian astronomers and astrophysicists published their research papers, before the internationalization of scientific research led them to adopt the English language and to publish their works in international journals. For this reason, a major change occurred in the publication policy of Memorie since 1975. From that time, Memorie is devoted exclusively to the publication of the proceedings of national and international conferences on all subjects of astronomy. Each issue of the journal is devoted to a single topic and the various issues constitue fundamental reference books for professional astronomers and astrononical libraries.
