When Renzo Titone's Psicolinguistica applicata (Applied Psycholinguistics) appeared in Italy in 1972, this discipline covered three main areas: the psychology of bilingualism, the psychology of language acquisition and language teaching and the psychology of translation. In the last decades, its field has been considerably enriched and diversified thanks to multiple connections with other disciplines. It may now include context-and culture-oriented studies on language acquisition, studies on typical as well as atypical language development, on psychological aspects related to different types of bi-or multilingualism, including signed and vocal languages, patrimonial and national languages, at any stage of life, from infancy to adulthood. The analysis of interaction in everyday contexts and in relation to cultures is also to be considered as pertaining to 'Applied Psycholinguistics', as well as the large domain of comprehension and production processes in relation to media languages, discourse and text. As for the psychology of translation, it still remains a traditional subfield of the discipline. These are the relevant areas covered by the "Rivista di psicolinguistica applicata" / "Journal of Applied Psycholinguistics".
