The journal, which is issued once a year, intends to host works of a high scientific content, act as a training ground for young scholars and as a spur for the discussion of new theories and practices of research. Through the assistance of Italian and foreign researchers from different academic and professional backgrounds, the journal is focussed on archaeological research, from prehistory to the upper Middle Ages, in the geographical areas specified in the title, without neglecting other countries overlooking the western Mediterranean Sea. In the Notes and Discussions and Reviews and Book Recommendations sections, researchers may find wide critical and informative reviews on specific issues, for instance restoration, protection, enjoyment of archaeological heritage and news on conferences, exhibitions and museum events, as well as reviews of scientific essays. In addition, the journal includes an updated collection of news on local excavations and findings.
