The links between pre-romanticism and romanticism are well-known, as are those between illuminism and positivism, or, shifting the focus to writers, between Parini on one hand and Manzoni and Leopardi on the other, between Goldoni and Giacosa, and between the 18th century lyric poets and Carducci. This annual journal aims to explore these and other connections, but will also publish and encourage studies of 18th and 19th century Italian literature, from Arcadia to the early d'Annunzio. It welcomes contributions from many fields (how else to study Metastasio?), and comparisons with foreign literature, as well as articles of a methodological type. The complexity of the centuries studied requires a critical re-evaluation of authors and movements, a philological review of the works, some important, and the recovery of submerged texts.
The journal offers surveys of essays, unpublished and rare, portraits and critico-bibliographic reviews, although not revised. Some issues are monographic.
