The vast library of journals produced by Italian and international academic publishers has offered no specific place for research by the diverse scholars who study antiques and the themes that characterize the study of antiquities throughout the centuries. Articles from a wide variety of studies have ended up in numerous publications, with the inevitable consequence that results cannot always be easily and rapidly retrieved, even for those who frequent and cultivate this field. The journal accepts articles of scholarly research on various aspects of the antiques trade (political, historical, institutional, literary), overcoming the divisions between various spheres of academic studies regarding scholars from different disciplines.
Thus "Symbolae antiquariae" was founded. The very title echoes the highest tradition of Italian enlightenment culture, deriving from a similar experience promoted by Anton Francesco Gori in Florence in the mid-XVIII century, who played a leading role in the culture of that time.
