This volume is a collection of the proceedings of the conference in Morciano di Romagna (27-29 April 2007) during which the rich medieval documentation related to the monastery of San Gregorio in Conca, founded around 1060 by Pier Damiani, was considered from different slants to illustrate the fundamental aspects of the Rimini area in the 11th century. Morciano provides an excellent case for studies of the period of ecclesiastic reform in a circumscribed yet highly significant area, since the coenoby was positioned on the frontier between the Roman-papal area and the Ravenna-imperial area. A precise analysis of the local sources allows one to contextualise the implications, important in themselves, of a political-religious nature of this period of ecclesiastical reform within an extremely varied and articulated framework of social, settlement and economic dynamics of Romagna at the beginning of the second millennium.
