Suffice it to say that the country of India has inspired all of us to conceive an exhibition that is both linked to that country but also reflects artistic practice in Italy. Given the strong interest in international art in India, it seemed timely to explore the possibility of bringing our exhibition of Italian artists to the country. And what better idea than to bring women painters from Rome for the first time: a symbol of exchange and future collaboration between the two countries. The fundamental objective, on which the Embassy of Italy is trying to base its cultural programmes in India, is that of exchange and of dialogue. But in order for this dialogue to proceed, the meeting of persons who have a common inspiration is indispensable. The presence in India of a number of Italian women artists will certainly confirmthat approach and will lead to, I am sure, fruitful contacts and personal associations between Indian and Italian artists, each deriving from the other new creative ideas, thus further enriching the splendid interactions that already exist between India and Italy. Beyond the beauty of this exhibition and the enjoyment of the public, the realization of this objective represents the deeper goal, and the ambition, of our cultural ventures.
