The present publication of the results of a first phase of research on technological aspects of Gandharan sculptural tradition is a preliminary achievement. We are aware of how much remains to do, both in terms of the amount of artworks to study, and of the variety of analytical approaches that has to be applied. However, in the light of the results so far obtained, this line of research appears fruitful and promising for the investigation of the spread of artistic know-how in the great Buddhist gandharan tradition, including polychrome sculpture, still very popular in the Indo-Himalayan region
