Barbara Calcei, in art Bake, was born in Genoa 1/9/1972. She obtained her honours degree at the Accademia di Belle Arti RUFA (Rome University of Fine Arts) having followed courses run by Professors Lino Tardia and Paolo D'Orazio, specializing in portraiture. She lives and works in Rome. Her investigations range from the figurative to abstraction. She has participated in numerous exhibitions both national and international. Some of the most recent include: 2006 at Palazzo Malaspina in Ascoli Piceno; 2007 at the exhibition "Right to food" at Rome's FAO; 2008 at San Michele a Ripa (Rome). In 2009 she took part in the "Premio Catel" at San Salvatore in Lauro in Rome, exhibiting the work "Il centro di Roma" (Rome's city center) which today is part of the association's private collection. In 2010 she exhibited with the A.R.G.A.M. at Rome's Museo Crocetti and in 2011 she was part of the collective "Open Art" at La Sala del Bramante in Rome. In the same year she participated in "Emergenze arte Roma" (Emerging Roman Art) at the Cloister of the Basilica SS. Apostoli, followed by a presentation of an individual collection of paintings at Palazzo Maffei Marescotti, the Papal State. In 2012 she exhibited at "Emergenze arte Roma" at the Cloister of S. Anselmo and at the Macro Testaccio, Rome in "Affordable Art Fair". In 2013 she was invited to take part in the exhibition "Evenements Culturels D'Arte Plastique Nationaux et Internationaux", Jan Garemijn Hall (Bruges), the collective "Diversamente" at the "Teatro dei Dioscuri" in Rome and at the "Ars creandi 2013" at the Museo Crocetti in Rome. In 2014 she participated in the "Prima Biennale di Spoleto", in the IV International Festival of Art at the Embassy of Iraq in the "Santa Sede" of Rome and in the "Ars et Humanitas" at the Museo Diocesano of Mantova. In 2012 she became a member of the U.C.A.I. In 2014 she won the "Primo Premio Galleria La Pigna", with a diptych inspired by the Tuareg. Also in 2014 she was invited to participate as a guest in the 41st edition of the "Premio Scanno", presenting the portraits of the three hopeful popes; Pope Francesco, Pope John XXIII and Pope Wojtyla. She has illustrated books for different publishing houses amongst which Gangemi, Armando Siciliano, Kimerik and Arkadia.
