The International Conference, which was awarded the medal of the President of the Republic, is a milestone in the world of cultural heritage protection: for the first time, in fact, by placing multidisciplinarity as a fundamental resource, the Parco archeologico del Colosseo brought together representatives of institutions active in the experimentation of new methods of conservation to discuss the challenges of the new millennium: reducing vulnerability and increasing resilience through the use of low-impact technologies. In particular, the proceedings illustrate the themes of monitoring and scheduled maintenance in archaeological areas, with the aim of defining a protocol to address and resolve the consequences of the evolution and increase in the effects of climate change occurring on our planet as a result of global warming. Through the comparison between traditionally distant research areas, the contributions in this volume therefore outline new monitoring methods applied to cultural heritage, without neglecting the ordinary but complex management of archaeological areas.
