Agenore Fabbri may be rightfully considered a singular protagonist in Italy's panorama of contemporary art; like no other, this extraordinarily creative artist, who was a sculpture, ceramist, painter and illustrator at the same time, enriched the history of twentieth century art with an imaginative language and a repertory of inventions that were rich in content and form alike, eccentric plastic realisations and a consistently passionate expressive will. This can be said of his figurative creations, where he depicted persons and animals in traumatic and extreme existential situations, as well as his abstract objects, in which he often tended towards a raging informal action and aesthetic-material experimentations that can be interpreted as signs of violence and destruction. In this sense, the entire body of Agenore Fabrri's work is characterised by a humane and committed view of the world and the essence of mankind, born of the suffering of the Second World War and the obscure and threatening scenarios of nuclear armament, and is manifest in an emotionally charged expressionism.
The entire spectrum of the work of Agenore Fabbri, who was born on 20th May 1911 in Barba (Province of Pistoia - Italy) and died on 7th November 1998 in Savona, is collected in this general catalogue of two volumes, compiled by Volker W. Feierabend and published in the collection of the VAF Foundation of Frankfurt am Main on occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the artist's birth. The first volume contains the results of his works of sculpture, in words and images, in chronological order and divided into Fabbri's artistic periods, starting from the Thirties and continuing through 1990, with introductory essays by Renato Barilli and Volker W. Feierabend.
The second volume is dedicated to Agenore Fabbri's pictorial creations and his work as an illustrator, again accompanied by essays by Volker W. Feierabend, together with an appendix with documents, a biography, an index of the artist's shows and an ample bibliography.
