Through over five hundred pieces, the exhibition shows the major events of the re-discovery by Italian humanists of the ancient Greek civilization, and the following artistic elaboration of the models taken from it, which reaches its climax in the works by the great protagonists of Italian Renaissance, as Mantegna, Pollaiolo, Botticelli, the Venetian School, to Leonardo and Michelangelo.
The work, with a rich iconographic material, gathers the contributions from important scholars and specialists, who treat the many aspects related to the subject of the exhibition.
The first volume includes the illustrations of all the works on show accompanied by relevant captions; the second one includes the entries of the works and the essays.
