Mario Cucinella, who has won many international awards for his designs, is currently one of Europe's most important architects. An unchallenged leader and advocate of sustainability in all his works, from private housing to city master plans, his projects are also celebrated for the excellent designing. The impact and value, from both a social and environmental perspective, of his career also as a professor along with his social activism have been praised around the globe, most recently by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) which awarded him the prestigious International Fellowship for 2016.
The winner of numerous competitions, he has conceived transformational designs regarding residential, commercial, scholastic, hospital and urban constructions not only in Italy but also in Algeria, China, Ghana, Palestine and elsewhere.
In summary, Cucinella has stated this about his mission: "Conceiving sustainable buildings means coming into direct contact with a place's climate and concept. We must imagine low-visible tech buildings that allow us to make form and materials work more: these are changing and becoming main players of the result, materials that carry out an invisible role, a function, and which will be a part of a new circular economy. This process seems like one step closer to the complexity of nature rather than mechanical artifice. Buildings with a high degree of empathy, creative empathy." This book contains an introduction by Luca Molinari as well as contributions by Mario Cucinella and experts and professionals who for years have worked with MCA (Samia Nkrumah, Antonella Agnoli, Brian Ford, Antonio Navarra, Marilena Baggio, John Olley, Luca De Biase).
