Sixty paintings document sixty years of activity by the Portuguese painter Maria Elena Vieira da Silva (Lisbon 1908 - Paris 1992), whose work which has exercised a powerful influence in Italy too is characterized by a sort of obsession with composition that gives rise to imaginary locations, labyrinths and multiple perspectives.
A series of masterpieces outstanding among them La machine optique (1937), Le désastre ou La guerre (1942) and Les grandes constructions (1956) guides the reader on an exploration of Vieira da Silva's favorite subjects, such as libraries, cities, ateliers, ports, stations and landscapes.
